Hello, my name is Anoushka. I became a journalist because I am a big fan of the truth, of arranging words, and of telling people what’s right. Everyone tells me it’s a terrible time to be in this business but honestly, when else have we needed it more?
I am based out of India and the United States, so I would love me some freedom of the press.

What I have been upto
Between 2022-24, I travelled to many corners of India to train national and regional journalists and journalism students on incorporating data, climate and OSINT into mainstream Indian journalism. Interacting with news workers across India and then Asia gave me a truer, nuanced perspective on the state of media, and the needs of journalism in the region. It showed me how isolated most newsrooms are, and how overworked journalists in shortstaffed newsrooms don’t have the bandwidth to work on anything but the news of the day. There was a need to create a space for collaboration in journalism–a centralised body that could help journalists across the diverse cultural and linguistic landscape of India and Asia work together on larger projects.
It is why I then built Asian Dispatch, a pan-Asia newsroom and network with 18 member newsrooms in Nepal, India, Japan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Philippines, and Pakistan. As one of a three-person founding team, I created this cross-border and collaborative newsroom from scratch, brought 18 investigative newsrooms onboard, and worked with countless journalists across Asia-Pacific on stories, editorial collaborations, and other types of media projects.
Where I want to be now
Having built a strong foundation at Asian Dispatch, I am now looking forward to reentering the world of investigative reporting. Prior to my time in Indian media, I reported on housing and eviction, homelessness, incarceration, police brutality, and more in the U.S. I want to spend more of my days talking to people, hunting through documents and internet wormholes, persistently pursuing that one AHA moment that builds your story.
